Shawn Pinchbeck

Shawn Pinchbeck is an Edmonton based sound designer, composer, media artist, and long time FAVA member. He's created sound and composed music for numerous independent films over the years, most notably the Genie Award winning documentary The Corporation. Since 2006, he has been a Lecturer of Sound Design at the Baltic Film and Media School in Tallinn, Estonia. Currently, he is a PhD Research Student in Music Composition at the University of Birmingham, UK. Shawn also is very active as an independent sound and media artist creating performances, installations, and curating happenings wherever they'll have him.

Sound Design Description:

Shawn Pinchbeck will lead you on a introduction to a hands-on Sound Design course. The course will start with a discussion of Sound Design theory and examples to tune students' eyes and ears to the topic at hand. Students will be introduced to techniques and elements of sound design with assigned tasks to develop their skills. Students will have an opportunity to discuss and present their own film projects with the class, allowing suggestions and advice from the instructor as everyone learns from each other.

Class Payment and Cancellation Policy:

Your enrollment in any class is not guaranteed until payment is received.  Classes must be paid for at least one week before the first class.  You may cancel your enrollment in a class one week before the first class without charge.  Cancellations made less than a week before the first class will be refunded the full amount less a $50 cancellation fee.  Cancellations made after the first class will be refunded the tuition less a $50 cancellation fee and the appropriate portion of the total tuition for however many classes you attended.  There will be no reimbursements after the third class.  All classes are subject to cancellation if there are insufficient registered participants.  We will notify you regarding cancellation at least on week before the first class.  If we cancel the class, you are entitled to a full refund or you may transfer to another scheduled class, space permitting.
