What:
The Film and Arts Society - Alberta (FAVA) is holding an Open House on Saturday, September 29, 2012 between 10am - 4pm. Now in our 30th year, FAVA is the independent filmmaker's one-stop DIY dream. There's plenty in store for the media arts enthusiast. Tour the facilities, take in gear demonstrations, try your hand at scratch animation, enjoy excellent short films by Albertan filmmakers, and enter a draw for your chance to win a FREE membership and/or a Super8 Camera Rental package including one roll of film.
FAVA's Open House is part of the celebrations occurring throughout the province during Alberta Culture Days 2012. Alberta Culture Days, September 28 - 30, is about discovering, experiencing and celebrating our unique blend of peoples and passion, and the importance of culture to a healthy and vibrant province. Prairie Tales 14 Screenings (Young Audiences 3pm screening (40 min) & 7pm full screening (100 min) in FAVA's Exhibtion Suite, 2nd floor)
Prairie Tales is the annual touring anthology of short films and videos made by Albertan media artists. Every year, they bring out a new batch of works from the shining lights of our province's media arts scene and assemble them into a feature-length package for distribution across Alberta and beyond. The anthology includes work from the following FAVA members: Eva Colmers, Leslea Kroll & Kyle Armstrong, Lindsay McIntyre, and John Osborne.

Come-and-go Scratch Animation Workshop
Get hands-on with camera-less animation and put your stamp directly onto film strips. FAVA member Lindsay McIntyre will lead a come-and-go workshop on scratch animation.

Edit Suites (Colour Correction Suite featuring Davinci Resolve with a Flanders Scientific 24" 10-bit monitor, ProTools 8 with 5.1 surround sound, Final Cut X, Final Cut Pro 7, and Avid Media Composer)

FAVA Open House for Schools | Sep 28 10am - 3pm
The Film and Video Arts Society - Alberta (FAVA) - In honour of our 30th anniversary and in celebration of Alberta Culture Days, FAVA would like to invite you and your students to an Open House on Friday, September 28th from 10am - 3pm. We are primarily looking to reach youth ages 14 - 17 years interested in media arts.
Media Art has become a key medium for youth to express themselves through; as such, we began a youth membership level in the fall of 2010 along with Spring & Summer Video Camps in order to address this demand and assure tomorrow’s filmmakers that they have a home with us.
Open House Schedule of Events:
10am - Tour the Facilities
10:30am - Brief Gear Demonstration on

11:10am - Scratch Animation Workshop
12:30pm - Hot Dog Lunch
1:30pm - Prairie Tales 14 Screening
including Q & A with an Albertan filmmaker

*The ending times are flexible to accomodate
students’ bus schedules.
Information regarding youth memberships and any upcoming spring and summer camps will be provided at the open house.
FREE Membership Draw
All students will have the opportunity to sign up for our e-bulletin and in turn be eligible for our FREE Membership Draw and FAVA Forage Cap which will be handed out before the end of the day. Membership will be good through to September 30, 2013.

If you are unable to attend our Open House, but would be interested in bringing your students in for a tour at another point, send us an email and we would be happy to schedule a time that would work. We also have an Open House for the general public on September 29th from 10am - 4pm.
